DOUBLE AWARDS SUCCESS FOR BEAMISH

Beamish achieved a double awards success at the North East England Tourism Awards. Not only was the museum named as Visitor Attraction of the Year 2007, but was also awarded silver in the Best Family Experience category.

MAJOR NEW AWARD FOR BEAMISH
Beamish was named as ‘Best UK Attraction for Group Visits - Long Visit' at the 2007 Group Travel Awards. This is the second year that Beamish has won the prestigious title, moreover the Museum has won it no less than five times since 2000.

HERITAGE LOTTERY GRANT FOR BEAMISH

Beamish was recently awarded a £303,500 grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which will be used to build a Lamp Cabin in The Colliery Village to house the Museum's nationally important and unique collection of miner's lamps and other mining artefacts.

BEAMISH INVESTS IN VOLUNTEERS 

Beamish, the region's Award-winning open air museum, recently achieved the Investing in Volunteers Quality Standard, recognising the excellent relationship of the museum with volunteers.


WINNING ARCHITECTS ANNOUNCED FOR BEAMISH VISITOR CENTRE

The winners of the prestigious, international competition for the design of a new visitor centre at Beamish have been announced.  The chosen firm, Benson + Forsyth, were selected from 93 international, top-flight architecture firms.

LAMP CABIN ARCHITECTS CHOSEN
The winning firm of architects for an authentic period style 1913 Lamp Cabin building to be built at Beamish has been announced. Purcell Miller Tritton will use period materials and techniques throughout to recreate a Lamp Cabin which will house Beamish's internationally important lamp collection.

BEAMISH LAUNCHES GEORGIAN LANDSCAPE

Beamish has recently opened a recreated 1820s landscape, thanks to funding from the County Durham Environmental Trust (CDENT).
